The Wali of the Fes-Meknes region has initiated a widespread campaign to reclaim public spaces in the Akdal and Marin districts of Fes. The campaign targeted several commercial establishments, including the restaurants “Al-Zawja Al-Thaniya” and “Asimat Al-Dajaj”, as well as a café located within “Al-Rex” Garden in central Fes. This initiative aligns with the wali’s commitment, made during his first meeting, to prioritize the organization of public spaces to better serve the community.
The campaign has sparked controversy, with the owner of “Al-Zawja Al-Thaniya” and “Asimat Al-Dajaj” expressing surprise at the targeting of his businesses. He speculated that the operation might be tied to “Al-Rex” café, which he believes could be the main reason behind the crackdown. He called for the campaign to be fair and comprehensive, targeting all violators without bias or personal vendettas.
The affected business owners have urged authorities to extend the campaign to include all establishments that breach regulations, ensuring fairness and equality in its implementation. Observers argue that adhering to principles of transparency in execution would bolster public trust in the reform measures of local authorities.
Meanwhile, city residents hope this initiative will improve their quality of life and organize public spaces, provided it is applied justly and without raising concerns of selectivity or personal grievances among involved parties.
