Abdelkrim Al-Zarktouni, President of the Mohammed Al-Zarktouni Foundation for Culture and Research, affirmed that the commemoration of the Glorious Independence Day is an opportunity to reaffirm national constants represented in the Islamic religion, territorial unity, and the royal institution.
Al-Zarktouni emphasized, in a speech delivered on this occasion, the importance of these constants that have shaped Morocco’s liberation identity throughout the centuries. He pointed out that celebrating Independence Day is an expression of loyalty to the mission of the founding fathers who struggled against colonialism.
The speaker reviewed the national struggle’s milestones, focusing on the King and People’s Revolution that erupted following the exile of Sultan Mohammed Ben Youssef on August 20, 1953. He highlighted the heroic steadfastness of Moroccans who mobilized with total dedication to demand the return of the legitimate Sultan and recognition of Morocco’s independence.
In a related context, Al-Zarktouni praised the current national achievements, especially regarding the territorial unity issue. He noted the increasing international recognition of the Moroccan position, referring to the acknowledgment by 19 European Union countries and the support from the United States, France, Spain, and Germany.
He concluded by emphasizing the continued struggle to secure territorial unity, considering it a natural extension of the spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by the founding fathers during the liberation battle.
