Today, November 18, 2024, the first round of the 2025 Africa Rugby 15 qualifiers kicks off in Casablanca at the Mohammed Benjelloun Complex, coinciding with the 69th anniversary of Morocco’s Independence Day.
This significant sports event, running until November 24, is organized under the auspices of the African Rugby Union, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, the Casablanca City Council, and local authorities. It highlights Morocco’s commitment to strengthening its national sport on both the African and international stages.
The qualifiers, held in Group B, feature four teams: Madagascar, Botswana, Cameroon, and host nation Morocco. These qualifiers hold particular importance as they represent a critical step for African teams aiming to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Rugby Championship finals, to be hosted in Kampala, Uganda. Furthermore, it serves as a crucial pathway to qualifying for the 2025 Rugby World Cup.
The Moroccan national team is determined to put forward its best performance in these qualifiers, relying on the support of the Moroccan fans and the national spirit that marks this major event. Meanwhile, the other teams in Group B will be competing fiercely to secure their place in the continental tournament.
These qualifiers are taking place alongside similar events in Tunisia, where Group A qualifiers involve the host nation, Nigeria, Ghana, and Zambia. Following these qualifiers, the winners from both groups will face off in a playoff to determine which two teams will secure a spot in the Africa Rugby 2025 finals’ Group A.
