The Minister of Health and Social Protection held an emergency meeting with the National Union Coordination of the health sector on Sunday, November 10, 2024, to discuss provisions related to the centralization of financial positions and salaries in the finance bill.
During the meeting, the Minister confirmed that the Ministry, in collaboration with relevant government sectors, had been working over the past days to find legal solutions that guarantee the centralization of financial positions and salaries while preserving the civil servant status of health professionals. He added that these proposals will be presented for approval in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, November 12.
For its part, the Union Coordination considered this step a positive indicator towards the effective implementation of the July 23, 2024 agreement, emphasizing that the centralization of financial positions and civil servant status represents a “red line” that cannot be crossed.
The Union Coordination announced that it will continue monitoring the legislative process in the House of Representatives, reserving its right to implement its escalatory protest program announced in a previous statement dated November 1, 2024, should there be any failure to implement the agreement signed with the government.
It’s worth noting that this meeting comes after the Union Coordination’s rejection of provisions in the finance bill that it considered contrary to the agreement signed with the government, which led to tensions in the sector.
