Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, emphasized during his speech at the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi on Sunday that the world needs Africa, not the other way around, criticizing attempts by some African countries to impose their leadership on the continent.
Bourita indicated that Morocco feels completely comfortable in this meeting between Africa and its strategic partner Russia, affirming the Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to transforming pledges into tangible projects serving human development, food security, energy, and climate.
The Moroccan minister highlighted three major royal initiatives, including the Rabat Process for Atlantic African countries, the initiative to facilitate Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean, and the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, confirming their positive progress.
Bourita emphasized that Africa needs mutually beneficial partnerships more than aid, calling for respect for the continent’s voice at the international level. He expressed gratitude to Russia for understanding Africa’s role and potential.
The minister criticized attempts by some African countries to self-appoint themselves as leaders of the continent without legitimacy, stressing that peace and shared prosperity cannot be achieved without respecting state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and good neighborly relations.
Bourita concluded his speech by affirming the promising growth potential of the Russian-African partnership, calling for focus on cooperation in food and energy security during the upcoming Russian-African Summit.
