Beirut – The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced in a new statement on Saturday that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes on the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon, a Hezbollah stronghold, has risen to seven dead, including two young girls.
The ministry explained that “enemy Israeli raids on Tyre resulted in the death of seven people, including two girls, and injured 46 others” in the coastal city on Friday, noting that bodies were recovered from under the rubble.
The statement added that remains of bodies were found “to be identified through DNA tests,” confirming that search operations for missing persons are continuing.
The National News Agency reported that the raids targeted three buildings and caused severe damage to dozens of homes. An Israeli warplane also destroyed two houses in the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon.
Israel has escalated its air campaign on Lebanon since September 23 and launched a ground offensive on September 30 in the south of the country, following a year of border clashes between its army and Hezbollah.
On Saturday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for launching several rockets at northern Israel, targeting a military base north of Haifa and its surroundings, and announced shooting down an Israeli drone.
It should be noted that Hezbollah opened a front against Israel to support its Palestinian ally Hamas following the October 7, 2023 attack, which led to the outbreak of war in Gaza.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, more than 2,700 people have been killed in Lebanon since September 23, most of them civilians.
