On Thursday, October 31, 2024, national security and customs officials at the Beni Ansar border crossing in Nador successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of drugs into Morocco.
The operation led to the seizure of 63,074 psychoactive pills and 550 grams of cocaine hidden in a light vehicle with foreign license plates.
The security teams discovered this illicit shipment during thorough monitoring and inspection of the vehicle upon its arrival at the border post.
The drugs were carefully concealed within the vehicle’s structure and spare tire.
As a result of the operation, the driver and his companion two Spanish citizens of Moroccan descent aged 70 and 57 were arrested.
The suspects are currently undergoing judicial interrogation under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor, aimed at uncovering all aspects of this criminal activity, identifying potential accomplices, and determining the extent of the network at both national and international levels.
This security operation is part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and psychoactive substances across its borders, reinforcing national security and demonstrating the commitment to fighting transnational organized crime.
