Moroccan MP Ilham Saqi expressed her appreciation for French President Emmanuel Macron’s official visit to Morocco, made at the gracious invitation of King Mohammed VI, in an exclusive statement to Fes News.
In an address to both houses of the Moroccan Parliament, President Macron reiterated France’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, stating, “The present and future of this region will be solely under Moroccan sovereignty.” He also emphasized French companies’ and economic stakeholders’ commitment to support the region’s development through sustainable investments for the benefit of its people.
Saqi further highlighted President Macron’s call to write a “new book” on Moroccan-French relations to address future challenges, aiming to establish a new vision for deeper partnerships across various sectors, in collaboration with King Mohammed VI.
The three days visit saw the signing of multiple agreements to strengthen cooperation in defense, security, migration, renewable energy, education, culture, aviation, transportation, desalination, and green hydrogen production and distribution.
Additionally, Morocco and France signed a joint declaration to establish a “solid, exceptional partnership” founded on the principles of equal sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
On the situation in Palestine and Lebanon, Saqi mentioned the joint call from King Mohammed VI and President Macron for an immediate halt to attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, stressing civilian protection and the need for humanitarian aid.
The leaders also underscored the importance of reviving the peace process based on a two-state solution.
Concluding her statement, MP Saqi affirmed that this renewed partnership will chart a new path for bilateral relations, strengthening cooperation across various sectors to benefit both Moroccan and French citizens, while also enhancing regional stability.
