Storm “Dana”: Morocco Records Heavy Rainfall While Spain Faces Devastating Floods

Houcine Youabed, Head of Communications at the National Meteorology Directorate, revealed that Storm “Dana,” which caused devastating floods in Spain, formed due to the descent of a cold air mass.

The official explained that this atmospheric depression led to instability in the atmosphere, resulting in heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds that caused significant damage in southeastern Spain. He added that this region was severely affected due to its Mediterranean climate and the presence of humid and warm air masses in the Mediterranean basin, which led to major flooding.

Regarding the storm’s impact on Morocco, Youabed confirmed that the kingdom witnessed dense cloud formation accompanied by rain and thunderstorms, particularly in the north and center of the country, the Atlas and Rif mountain ranges, and some eastern regions. Snowfall was also recorded in the Middle and High Atlas mountains.

He added that the storm’s impact on Morocco was less intense compared to southeastern Spain, though it still caused significant rainfall on Tuesday, with Tangier recording 100mm and Fnideq recording 84mm.

According to weather forecasts for Thursday, October 31, 2024:
