Moroccan Government Approves New Foreign Affairs Structure to Enhance Diplomacy

In its weekly meeting on Thursday, October 31, 2024, the Moroccan government approved Draft Decree No. 2.24.957, which defines the competencies and organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, presented by Minister Nasser Bourita.

This initiative aligns with the royal directives emphasizing the importance of diplomatic affairs within the framework of national strategic issues, as Morocco aims to bolster its active role regionally and internationally.

Mustapha Baïtass, the Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, noted that this step marks a significant phase in modernizing the structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, making it more comprehensive and flexible in fulfilling its duties.

The new structure aims to adapt to global changes and expand the scope of Moroccan diplomacy in emerging fields that have become crucial on the international stage.

The project focuses on establishing modern administrative units and updating the current structure to include departments that align with the contemporary needs of global diplomacy. It also involves reorganizing the general directorates to operate within integrated clusters, ensuring more coordinated and effective performance.

Notably, the “Moroccan Academy of Diplomatic Studies” will be renamed the “Moroccan Institute for Training, Research, and Diplomatic Studies,” with new responsibilities including advanced training and research in diplomatic fields.

This project reflects the government’s commitment to keeping pace with international dynamics and providing a Moroccan diplomacy that meets current challenges, enhancing Morocco’s presence in international forums and broadening opportunities for strategic cooperation and partnerships.
