The “Sports Media Associations” have sent an open letter to Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, urging him to take immediate action to restore the dignity of Moroccan sports journalism.
In this letter, the associations outlined several pressing issues facing the sector and expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of adequate attention to sports media, which plays a pivotal role in supporting and developing sports in Morocco.
This letter comes amid a tense climate, as the associations highlighted a range of challenges faced by sports journalists, including a lack of support, weak media infrastructure, and inappropriate treatment of journalists during the coverage of sports events.
The letter included a call for the establishment of a suitable environment that respects the role of journalists and appreciates their efforts, urging for greater access to information and the ability to perform their work freely and professionally.
The associations also called for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to intervene urgently to protect the interests of sports media and support the right to access information and cover sporting events in a manner befitting the status of national journalism.
The associations emphasized that sports media is a crucial partner in promoting sports culture and raising awareness among fans, necessitating the establishment of a collaborative framework that ensures the rights of journalists are respected and enhances their performance.
The letter concluded with a call for Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa to respond to these demands and listen to the concerns of sports journalists, stressing the importance of urgently correcting the policies regarding the treatment of Moroccan sports media as a step toward enhancing transparency and communication with the public.
