The investigating judge at the Court of First Instance in El Jadida has ordered the detention of well-known YouTuber “Ilyas El Malki” at the Sidi Moussa local prison, following his presentation before the public prosecutor after the end of his police custody period.
This decision comes following complaints filed by human rights activists and Amazigh civil society associations. Authorities had arrested El Malki last Saturday on charges related to “defamation and insult.”
According to a well-informed source, El Malki faces approximately 15 legal complaints due to statements considered offensive to the Amazigh people made during a live stream, where he stated: “An Amazigh will remain an Amazigh, having a small mind and a hungry stomach.”
The clip in which El Malki made these statements has been widely circulated on social media platforms, sparking widespread controversy and angry reactions among Moroccan public opinion.
