Rabat Court of Appeal Issues Verdicts in Official Document Forgery Case

RABAT – The Primary Criminal Chamber at the Rabat Court of Appeal has issued its final verdicts in the forgery case that shook the Royal Gendarmerie Territorial Center in Brachoua, involving a former commune president and three gendarmes.

The court sentenced the former center chief with the rank of assistant to two years in prison, including 18 months of mandatory imprisonment. A first sergeant received the same sentence. A third gendarme with the rank of sergeant was sentenced to two years, including one year of mandatory imprisonment and one year suspended, and has already been released after serving his term. The former president of the rural commune of Brachoua was sentenced to two years in prison, including 18 months of mandatory imprisonment.

The case dates back to October 2023, when the National Judicial Investigation Brigade of the Royal Gendarmerie referred nine suspects to the public prosecutor’s office, including the former commune president, his son, three gendarmes, two civil servants, and two farmers. The King’s Attorney General ordered the arrest of the commune president and the three gendarmes, while the remaining suspects were prosecuted while remaining free.

The case began following a complaint filed by the family of a traffic accident victim, concerning the forgery of an official accident report involving the son of the commune president, who belongs to the Authenticity and Modernity Party. The National Gendarmerie Brigade initiated its investigation into the case under the instructions of the King’s Attorney General in Rabat.
