The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) signed a strategic agreement yesterday, Monday, for the transportation of natural gas through the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline to supply the kingdom’s power stations.
According to a statement issued by ONHYM, this contract solidifies the long-term cooperation between the two institutions, which resulted in the operation of the “reverse flow” system in June 2022. This system allows Morocco to import liquefied natural gas from global markets, where it is received and regasified in Spanish facilities before being transported to the kingdom through the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline.
During the signing ceremony, Amina Benkhadra, Director General of ONHYM, and Tarik Hamane, Director General of ONEE, praised the fruitful cooperation between the two parties and the quality of services provided by ONHYM through its subsidiary company (OMCo).
This contract is considered an important step in strengthening Morocco’s energy security and ensuring the continuity of natural gas supplies to the country’s electricity generation stations.
