Police Officer in Casablanca Investigated for Embezzlement of Public Funds

The National Brigade of Judicial Police in Casablanca launched a judicial investigation on Thursday, October 17, 2024, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to investigate allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds against a police officer working at the Casablanca Security Directorate.

This action follows a complaint filed by the owner of a gas station contracted to supply fuel to police vehicles. The station owner reported that a portion of his financial dues had not been paid.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the officer in charge of managing the police vehicle fleet had failed to settle an amount exceeding 400,000 Moroccan dirhams owed to the gas station owner.

Further investigations showed that the officer had collected this amount in the form of fuel vouchers, which he then converted into cash with the help of an employee at a different gas station.

The investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the involved employee.

The police officer has been placed in custody pending further investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office to determine the involvement of other parties and uncover all criminal acts committed.

In parallel with the judicial investigation, the General Directorate of National Security has issued a decision to temporarily suspend the suspect from duty, pending the completion of the investigation and the implementation of appropriate disciplinary measures.

This decision is part of a strict policy that ties responsibility to accountability, aiming to uphold principles of integrity and transparency within the security services.
