The National Institute of Geophysics in Morocco has reported two earthquakes in different areas of the kingdom over the past few days.
The first earthquake occurred on Wednesday off the coast of Larache, measuring 1.8 on the Richter scale. In an exclusive statement to “Le Site Info,” Nacer Jebbour, Director of the National Institute of Geophysics, explained that the tremor occurred at 3:00 AM, confirming that it was mild and not felt by residents.
The second earthquake struck on Tuesday in the community of Sidi Al Makhfi in Ifrane province, measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale. This tremor was recorded at 10:00 AM and was felt by residents of Ifrane, Meknes, Azrou, and other neighboring areas.
Jebbour reassured citizens, saying, “Fortunately, no human or material losses were recorded due to this tremor.” He added that the last earthquake recorded in Ifrane was two years ago, emphasizing that there is no cause for concern and that “this tremor is considered normal.”
It’s worth noting that Morocco is located in a seismically active region, making it prone to such natural phenomena from time to time. Earthquake experts urge citizens to adhere to safety guidelines and learn how to act in seismic emergency situations.
