Media reports indicate that the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces are preparing to conclude major military deals in both naval and air domains, expected to be signed during the anticipated visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to the Kingdom later this month.
According to the French newspaper “La Tribune”, these potential deals include a variety of advanced military equipment. Morocco is expected to acquire 18 Caracal helicopters, 12 for the army and 6 for the Royal Gendarmerie, at a cost ranging between 600 and 800 million euros, with delivery set to begin in 2025.
Reports also point to ongoing negotiations for the purchase of between 6 and 8 Brazilian C-390 transport aircraft, in addition to continuing talks between Morocco and France regarding the potential purchase of Airbus aircraft models A220, A320, and A330. This comes as part of a tender launched by Morocco to purchase 200 civil aircraft to enhance its air fleet.
In the naval domain, there is competition between major global companies such as Hanwha, Hyundai, and Naval Group to invest in the shipbuilding basin in Casablanca.
It’s worth noting that negotiations regarding Rafale aircraft are still ongoing between Morocco and France, with no final agreement reached yet. According to reports, Morocco also plans to order two SCORPENE submarines in 2025.
These potential deals, if completed, will significantly enhance the capabilities of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, reflecting the Kingdom’s strategy to modernize and develop its armed forces in line with contemporary security challenges.
These deals are expected to be a major focus during the anticipated visit of the French President, which may witness the signing of final agreements for some of these military purchases.
