Tomorrow, Wednesday, a U.S. delegation, composed of influential leaders and elected local officials, will arrive at Hassan I Airport in Laayoune.
This marks the first visit of its kind, aimed at assessing the economic and developmental landscape in the region through on-site visits to various socio-economic and development projects.
During the visit, the delegation will meet with local authorities, heads and members of elected councils, and representatives from civil society in Morocco’s southern provinces.
Additionally, the U.S. officials will sign cooperation agreements with the Laayoune municipality, led by Hamdi Ould Errachid, to foster collaboration between American and Moroccan local councils.
This visit follows the U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the southern provinces in December 2020, which has since enabled the strengthening of ties between U.S. and Moroccan cities in these regions.
A notable example is the twinning agreement between Laayoune and Hollywood, Florida, signed in May 2023, opening up new avenues for cooperation and knowledge exchange across various fields.
