The General Directorate of National Security and Bank Al-Maghrib signed two strategic agreements in Rabat on Monday, October 7, 2024, aimed at strengthening cooperation in digital identity and security protection.
Digital Services Development and Identity Protection The first agreement, a protocol concerning the electronic national identity card, focuses on several main objectives:
- Strengthening identity verification mechanisms and combating fraud
- Simplifying administrative procedures and digitizing services
- Improving the quality of services provided to users
Under this protocol, Bank Al-Maghrib will be able to:
- Use the trusted national third-party platform for identity verification
- Automatically verify users’ identities
- Read citizens’ identification data through their electronic cards
- Provide verification services both at bank premises and online
Enhanced Security Protection for Banking Facilities The second agreement focuses on security aspects and includes:
- Protection of Bank Al-Maghrib’s administrative facilities
- Securing currency museums, branches, and bank agencies
- Providing security escort for money and valuables transport
- Organizing awareness sessions and simulation exercises to test the readiness of concerned services
These two agreements come within the framework of implementing Law No. 04.20 regarding the electronic national identity card and Law No. 40.17 concerning the basic law of Bank Al-Maghrib.
It’s worth noting that this partnership reflects the strategic direction of both institutions toward strengthening digital and physical security in the Moroccan banking sector, which will contribute to improving services provided to citizens and enhancing trust in banking transactions.
