Media sources have reported that the investigating judge, head of the Fifth Chamber specialized in financial crimes at the Rabat Court of Appeal, has issued a travel ban against former minister Mohamed Gherras. This decision comes as part of an investigation involving 19 defendants, including officials, technicians, and advisors, all of whom are currently free.
According to available information, Gherras is being investigated in this case in his capacity as president of the Benmansour commune, located in the suburbs of Kenitra city. The reasons for the investigation stem from the discovery of irregularities in the management of certain public contracts, most notably the rental contract for the commune’s weekly market.
It’s worth noting that the charges against the defendants include embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds, reflecting the seriousness and importance of the case. The travel ban comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the progress of the investigation and the defendants’ presence before justice when necessary.
This case highlights the efforts being made to combat corruption and misuse of public funds in Morocco, especially when it involves former and current officials in sensitive positions. Political and legal circles are expected to follow the developments of this case with great interest in the coming days.
