The National Order of Judicial Officers in Morocco Rejects the Proposed Law Regulating the Profession

The National Order of Judicial Officers in Morocco issued a press release on September 29, 2024, announcing its categorical rejection of the proposed law regulating the profession of judicial officers put forward by the Ministry of Justice.

The statement indicated that the Order considers this project to contain provisions that are not agreed upon and pose a serious threat to the independence of judicial officers and their professional institutions, contradicting the agreement signed between the Order and the Minister of Justice on April 26, 2022.

In light of these developments, the Order announced a series of measures, most notably:

  1. Its absolute rejection of certain provisions in the proposed law regulating the profession.
  2. Its strong denunciation of the Order’s exclusion from participating in the preparation of this law.
  3. Its call for the Minister of Justice to open a serious and responsible dialogue about this project.
  4. Its demand for the Head of Government to halt the consideration and approval of this project.
  5. Its call for a national strike on October 3 and 4, 2024.
  6. Its confirmation of the General Assembly of Judicial Officers meeting on October 5, 2024.
  7. Its call to establish a national professional front for all legal and judicial professions to confront law projects that contradict the constitution and international references.

The statement concluded by calling on all judicial officers to unite, show solidarity, and rally around their professional structures, preparing to defend the profession and its practitioners through all legitimate means.

This development highlights the existing tension between the National Order of Judicial Officers and the Ministry of Justice regarding the future regulation of the profession in Morocco.
