Russia strongly condemned on Saturday what it described as the “political assassination” of Hassan Nasrallah, the Secretary-General of Lebanese Hezbollah, in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut on Friday.
In a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Moscow affirmed its strong condemnation of this act, holding Israel “fully responsible” for the “dramatic” consequences that may result from the assassination of the Hezbollah leader in the region.
Russian diplomacy stressed the need for Israel to immediately cease hostilities, calling for “an end to the bloodshed”.
This Russian stance comes in the context of escalating tensions in the region, where Russia is considered an important ally of Iran, the main supporter of Hezbollah.
These developments raise fears of a potential widening of the conflict in the Middle East, with increasing international calls for restraint and de-escalation.
So far, no official comment has been issued from the Israeli side on these accusations, while the international community awaits further developments on this matter.
