Comoros Foreign Minister, Dhoihir Dhoulkamal, reiterated his country’s unwavering stance in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, including the Sahara region.
This reaffirmation came in a joint statement following discussions held on Thursday in New York with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Comorian minister expressed his support for Morocco’s autonomy proposal, emphasizing that it represents the realistic and credible solution to resolving the regional dispute over the Sahara.
He also praised the efforts of the United Nations as the sole framework through which a practical and lasting solution to the conflict can be achieved.
In response, Nasser Bourita expressed his gratitude for Comoros’ continuous support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, commending the opening of the Comoros’ General Consulate in the city of Laayoune.
The Union of Comoros was the first country to inaugurate a consulate in the southern provinces of Morocco, in December 2019.
