The Moroccan General Directorate of National Security launched a large-scale campaign on Monday to renew electronic national identification cards for residents of mountainous areas in the provinces of Taounate, Taza, and Al Hoceima. The campaign specifically targets small-scale cannabis farmers who recently benefited from the royal pardon on the occasion of the Revolution of the King and the People.
The campaign will continue until November 7, with the Directorate dispatching mobile units equipped with special vehicles to process and renew national ID cards in numerous mountain villages and settlements. This initiative aims to simplify procedures for citizens and save them the trouble of traveling long distances.
Among the beneficiaries of this campaign is Mohammed El Aji, one of those included in the royal pardon, who expressed his happiness with this initiative that allowed him to renew his card without the hardship of travel. He expressed his gratitude to King Mohammed VI and local authorities for this step.
Hassan Fathi, Senior Police Commissioner and Head of the Regional Communication Unit of the Regional Security in Taza, stated that this operation aims to facilitate access to essential services related to the national ID card for residents of these areas. He added that the campaign also supports those who benefited from the royal pardon to return to public life normally.
This initiative comes within the framework of the proximity policy called for by King Mohammed VI, aiming to improve security services and bring them closer to citizens, especially in remote areas. Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the General Directorate of National Security for this step that facilitates obtaining their official documents.
The campaign is part of efforts to enhance services related to the electronic national ID card and bring them closer to citizens, especially as the new generation of national ID cards is a key gateway to many digital services provided by the digital identity system.
This humanitarian and community-oriented mission includes visits to dozens of mountain villages and territorial communities, with the goal of easing access to basic services related to the creation and renewal of national ID cards for the population of these areas.
The mobile units are receiving citizens on-site, preparing and renewing their national cards, with plans to deliver them during subsequent visits. This approach aims to reduce the burden of travel from these remote areas and enable residents to access the services of the General Directorate of National Security under the best conditions.
The beneficiaries of this operation unanimously expressed their gratitude to the General Directorate of National Security for this initiative, which has enabled them to obtain their electronic national ID cards within the framework of the proximity approach advocated by King Mohammed VI since his accession to the throne.
