The Aknoul Association for Development, Culture, and Memory Preservation, in collaboration with the Federation of Democratic Organizations in the Aknoul District, is organizing a symposium to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the “October 2, 1955” epic. The event will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Aknoul Youth Center.
The symposium program includes three main sessions:
Opening Session (10:00 AM):
- Moderated by Professor Redouane Abbache
- Speeches by organizing and participating associations
- Presentation by community activist Abdullah Boulebrah on “Participatory Democracy Mechanisms”
- Presentation by Federation President Hassan Gannouche on the Integrated Rural Development Project in Mountainous Areas
Second Session (12:00 PM):
- Moderated by Professor Youssef Hammouch
- Presentation by Professor Abdelmadjid Azouzi on “Segmentary Organization and Conflict Management in the Igzennayen Tribe”
- Presentation by Professor Mohamed Lakhwaja on “Tracing the Igzennayen Through Some Historical Stages”
Third Session (3:00 PM):
- Moderated by Professor Mourad Adjuz
- Speech by Professor Abdelmadjid Azouzi, translator of Carleton Stevens Coon’s works
- Two presentations on the novel “The Flesh of the Wild Ox” by American author Carleton Stevens Coon
A book fair will be organized on the sidelines of the symposium, with the participation of the Resistance and Liberation Army Space in Aknoul. The event will conclude with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and symbolic gifts to the participating staff.
This symposium aims to commemorate an important date in the region’s history, highlight local development and cultural issues, and focus on the importance of preserving collective memory and promoting sustainable development in mountainous areas.
