Rabat – In an advanced technological move to enhance oversight and transparency, the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities announced today the launch of a new program using drones to monitor licensed cannabis cultivation areas.
A senior official at the agency stated, “This program comes as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with regulations and promote transparency in the regulated cannabis cultivation sector. This modern technology will help us monitor farms with greater precision and efficiency.”
The initiative aims to:
- Monitor the size of cultivated areas and match them with granted licenses.
- Ensure farmers’ adherence to approved agricultural practices.
- Early detection of any potential violations or transgressions.
- Collect accurate data on crop growth and condition.
The official added, “We affirm that the use of this technology will be in accordance with all laws and regulations related to privacy and data protection. Our goal is to create a safe and organized environment for cannabis cultivation in line with national laws.”
This program is expected to contribute to improving the quality of the final product and ensuring its use only for legitimate medical and industrial purposes, thereby enhancing Morocco’s position in the global regulated cannabis market.
It’s worth noting that this step comes within the framework of national efforts to regulate and legalize cannabis cultivation, which began with the issuance of Law No. 13.21 concerning the legal uses of cannabis in 2021.
The official concluded by saying, “We look forward to the cooperation of licensed farmers in this program, and we emphasize that our ultimate goal is to create a sustainable and profitable agricultural sector that benefits farmers and the national economy as a whole.”
