In a formal ceremony held in Madrid, André Azoulay, advisor to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was awarded the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise, one of the highest honors in Spain.
This distinction has previously been awarded to prominent global figures such as Nelson Mandela, Angela Merkel, Gabriel García Márquez, and other renowned personalities in various fields.
During the award ceremony held at the Viana Palace, the historic seat of Spanish diplomacy, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares praised Azoulay’s efforts, saying: “André Azoulay has worked tirelessly throughout his life to make his country, Morocco, a global reference in the field of coexistence and dialogue while respecting the richness of our diversity.”
Albares added that this honor comes in recognition of the extraordinary contribution Azoulay has made over more than 30 years to strengthen and deepen Moroccan-Spanish relations, drawing not only on geography and diplomacy but also on the shared history, culture, and education between the two countries.
For his part, Azoulay expressed his gratitude to Minister Albares and the Spanish government for this symbolic recognition, stating that it is “rich with promises for the future for Morocco and Spain.” He also expressed his pride in seeing Morocco, under the enlightened and committed leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, receiving this appreciation in the heart of the Spanish capital.
It is worth noting that this honor comes in a turbulent international context, affirming the importance of dialogue and coexistence around the Mediterranean, the cradle of shared civilizations between the two countries.
