The Moroccan city of Dakhla is preparing to host two prominent global sporting events from September 29 to October 6, 2024, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. These events are the 14th World Cup for Kitesurfing “Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan – Global Kitesports Association (GKA) 2024” and the 3rd World Cup for Wingfoil “Global Wing Sports Association (GWA) 2024”.
According to the “Dakhla Lagoon Association for Sports Development and Cultural Animation”, these global events will feature participation from 17 countries, including Morocco, with a total prize money of 40,000 euros. These countries will be represented by 70 athletes from the elite of kitesurfing and wingfoil sports.
Among the notable participants in the kitesurfing category will be renowned names such as Airton Cozzolino, James Carew, and Matchu Lopes, in addition to Moroccan champions Ali Beqqali and Majji Mnaim. In the wingfoil category, prominent athletes like Malo Guenole, Cash Berzolla, and Wesley Brito will compete.
These competitions will be accompanied by two main activities:
- A national championship bringing together about 20 Moroccan competitors vying for entry cards to the global competition.
- A village dedicated to ocean awareness and conservation under the slogan “Protect What You Love, Save the Ocean”. This village will involve local youth, including students from local schools, and will host educational workshops, local initiatives, and interactive activities focused on marine environmental protection issues.
This event aims to enhance Dakhla’s position as a global kitesurfing destination capable of organizing high-level events, as well as highlighting the city’s commitment to environmental conservation. The event is also part of the human, social, and economic development program for Dakhla and its region, and is part of the association’s mission, working in close collaboration with local and regional authorities interested in the development and well-being of the area.
