A rumor turns into a migration trap: More than 100 detained in Fnideq and at bus stations after the spread of a false news about opening Ceuta

A rumor spread like wildfire on social media claiming that the Spanish occupation authorities will open the doors of Ceuta on September 15 for those wishing to migrate to Europe. What started as false news turned into explicit calls to gather and storm the imaginary borders of the occupied city.

With the escalation of calls through instant messaging applications, large groups of young people, most of them minors, moved towards Fnideq, awaiting what they described as a “golden opportunity” to enter Europe. However, the Moroccan authorities were on the lookout, as widespread arrests of more than 100 people who spread the calls online were launched.

The security authorities also intensified inspections at bus and train stations to prevent mass migration attempts from cities such as Ksar El Kebir and others, in a proactive step to thwart the plan.
