Security operations carried out by police forces in the cities of Tangier and Tetouan between September 9 and 11 resulted in the arrest of 60 individuals, including minors. These individuals are suspected of fabricating and spreading false information via social media platforms, inciting the organization of mass illegal migration attempts.
The crackdown began after the national police’s cybersecurity unit detected digital content explicitly calling for the breaching of the security fence between the cities of Fnideq and Ceuta on September 15, 2024. Investigations led to the identification of 13 individuals responsible for disseminating the incitement materials, with arrests made in several cities, including Casablanca, Tetouan, Fez, Rabat, and Oujda.
In a separate operation, 47 people were detained in Tangier after arriving at the city’s train and bus stations, intending to act on the provocative calls for illegal migration.
All suspects are currently under investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecutor, as authorities continue efforts to track down and apprehend the remaining individuals involved.
