The Moroccan Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports has announced extensive preparations for the new 2024-2025 academic year, with more than 8 million and 112 thousand students expected to enroll in educational institutions across the kingdom.
Minister of National Education, Chakib Benmoussa, inaugurated the new academic year at Al Massira Al Khadra Primary School in Tahanaout, Al Haouz province. Classes are scheduled to officially begin on Monday, September 9, 2024, across all levels and educational institutions.
According to ministry statistics, public education will accommodate approximately 6 million and 976 thousand students, distributed across various educational stages. Notably, there has been a significant increase in student numbers at the middle and high school levels, while the primary level experienced a slight decrease.
As part of the ministry’s efforts to improve educational infrastructure, 189 new educational institutions have been established, with 68% of them in rural areas. Additionally, 3,492 new classrooms and 15 boarding schools have been added in rural regions.
It’s worth noting that the ministry is paying special attention to preschool education, with about 984 thousand children expected to enroll at this stage, including 642 thousand in the public sector.
Regarding social support, the royal initiative “One Million Schoolbags” will continue to provide assistance to more than 3 million students. Financial aid will also be expanded to include high school students.
To ensure stability in textbook prices, the government has provided financial support to publishers, covering 25% of the selling price for books designated for primary and middle school levels.
In conclusion, the ministry called on all educational actors, administrators, and partners to continue mobilizing and engaging in the implementation of reforms and projects aimed at improving the quality of education and enhancing students’ core skills, in line with the 2022-2026 strategic action plan, which aims to achieve “quality public education for all.
