Moroccan athlete Abdelilah Gani has finally clinched the gold medal in the shot put competition (F53 category) at the Paralympic Games in Paris, following a successful appeal by the national delegation.
The Moroccan delegation filed an appeal against an invalid attempt by Georgian athlete Giga Ochkhikidze, who had initially been awarded the gold medal on Sunday, September 1st, at the Stade de France. The appeal was accepted, resulting in Abdelilah Gani’s silver medal being upgraded to gold.
In addition to securing the gold, Gani set a new world record with a throw of 9.22 meters, shattering his own previous world mark of 8.84 meters.
The silver medal was awarded to Iranian Alireza Mokhtari Hemami (8.69 meters), while the bronze went to Polish athlete Bartosz Gorczak (8.41 meters).
With this gold medal in shot put, Morocco has increased its medal tally to five, including 1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Fatima Zahra El Idrissi secured the silver medal in the 1500m (T13) event, while bronze medals were won by Aymane El Haddaoui in the 100m (T47) competition, Ayoub Adouich in para-taekwondo (-63 kg/K44), and Rajae Akermach in para-taekwondo (+65 kg/K44).
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Moroccan Paralympic sport, demonstrating the ability of Moroccan athletes to compete at the highest international levels.
