Sources from fuel distribution companies in Casablanca have reported that fuel prices in Morocco will see a slight decrease starting from September 1, 2024.
According to these sources, the price of diesel will drop by approximately 0.30 dirhams, reaching about 12 dirhams per liter. As for gasoline, it will see a reduction of about 0.44 dirhams per liter, bringing its price to around 14 dirhams.
This price adjustment comes at a time when the road freight transport sector, which was liberalized in 2003, continues to face numerous challenges. The sector is affected by problems such as high accident rates, informal operations, fragmentation of companies operating in the field, as well as practices of under-invoicing and overloading.
Despite these challenges, efforts are currently underway to rectify this critical situation in the road freight transport sector. The reduction in fuel prices is expected to help alleviate some of the pressures on this vital sector.
It’s worth noting that this decrease in fuel prices may have a positive impact on transportation costs and logistics services in general, which could positively reflect on the Moroccan economy as a whole.
The slight reduction in fuel prices is anticipated to provide some relief to both consumers and businesses, particularly those in the transportation and logistics sectors. However, it remains to be seen how this change will affect the ongoing efforts to address the structural issues within the road freight transport industry.
