Rabat – The Moroccan people and the Royal Family celebrate on Monday, August 26, 2024, the birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem, who is known for her continuous commitment to women’s and children’s causes and the promotion of social affairs for the Royal Armed Forces.
This joyous occasion provides an opportunity for Moroccans to celebrate the tireless efforts of Her Highness in preserving women’s achievements and improving children’s welfare, especially those living in difficult circumstances.
From an early age, Princess Lalla Meryem has held numerous positions in the social domain, most notably the presidency of Social Works for the Royal Armed Forces, a position to which she was appointed in 1981 by the late King Hassan II.
In recognition of Her Highness’s efforts in the field of social affairs for the Royal Armed Forces and her defense of women’s and children’s rights, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, decided to name four graduating classes of officers between 2020 and 2023 after “Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem”.
Princess Lalla Meryem also presides over the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Residing Abroad, the National Union of Moroccan Women, the National Observatory for Children’s Rights, and the Moroccan Association for UNICEF Support. Additionally, she serves as the honorary president of several associations working for the benefit of children.
Her Royal Highness’s exceptional journey has always been highly praised internationally and has earned her recognition from many officials in institutions working for children’s rights. In July 2001, UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura bestowed upon Her Highness the title of Goodwill Ambassador for the organization, in recognition of her relentless work for children’s causes and respect for their rights worldwide.
