In a determined effort to combat crime and bolster public safety, the city of Fez has witnessed a sweeping security campaign, the largest in the city’s recent history. The campaign, which spanned from July 20th to August 22nd, resulted in the arrest of 8,144 individuals, including 3,864 caught red-handed committing crimes and 4,280 others who were the subject of nationwide arrest warrants. These operations are part of a comprehensive strategy implemented by the General Directorate of National Security to enhance the sense of security in the city and its surrounding areas.
Fez, like other major Moroccan cities, faces the challenge of rising crime rates, particularly those that directly impact citizens’ sense of safety, such as violent thefts and physical assaults. For this reason, this security campaign was both necessary and urgent to confront these phenomena and protect the population. Joint security teams, comprising units from the judicial police, public security, and general investigations, relied on advanced technologies and detailed field analysis to identify crime hotspots. This comprehensive operation not only focused on arresting wanted individuals but also involved raising public awareness about the importance of cooperating with security forces to ensure the city’s security and stability.
