The union office for outsourced workers at the Multidisciplinary College of Selouane, affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT), organized a protest in front of the college dean’s office on Sunday evening, August 18, 2024. This protest came in solidarity with the General Secretary of the outsourced workers at the college, who, according to the union office, had his July salary suspended and was issued a transfer order to the city of Oujda.
The protest was attended by outsourced workers from the college and other sectors, as well as leaders from the Regional Union of Nador Unions and union officials from various sectors. Participants raised slogans denouncing what they described as the “domination of outsourcing companies” and their non-compliance with labor laws. They also expressed their disapproval of what they considered silence from the authorities responsible for implementing social legislation.
In a statement, the union leadership announced its readiness to organize a workers’ march for the outsourcing sector in the Nador province to demand workers’ rights.
It’s worth noting that the General Secretary, whose salary was suspended, continues his sit-in inside the college dean’s office for the fifth consecutive day, having started on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. The union reported that it had addressed correspondence to the college dean, the provincial authority, and the labor inspection department regarding this issue, but claimed it had not received a positive response so far.
It should be noted that this report is based on information provided by the union office and protest participants. We were unable to obtain comments from other parties involved in the issue at the time of preparing this report.
