The Ministry of National Education, Primary Education, and Sports has confirmed its full readiness for the upcoming school year, which coincides with the 2024 General Census of Population and Housing. A senior official from the Ministry told SNRTnews that all necessary measures and procedures have been taken to ensure the school year begins on schedule while allowing a number of teachers to participate in the census operation.
The 2024/2025 academic year is set to begin on September 2, with teaching staff returning to their posts on September 3, and students starting classes from September 4. Meanwhile, the General Census of Population and Housing will be conducted from September 1 to 30, 2024.
The source explained that the Ministry has granted approval for some teachers to participate in the census based on their requests, in an effort to ensure the success of this important national operation. The official emphasized that the school year’s start date will not change, noting that the Ministry has prepared all necessary measures at the level of Regional Academies of Education and Training and Provincial Directorates to manage human resources during the census period.
It’s worth noting that the General Census of Population and Housing is overseen by both the Ministry of Interior and the High Commission for Planning. The Ministry of Interior, through governors and local authorities, provides field support to coordinate various stages of the operation. The High Commission for Planning is responsible for preparing methodological and technical approaches, mobilizing human and material resources, as well as processing data and publishing results according to national and international standards.
Participants in the census operation include students with at least a “Bac+2” diploma, as well as current and retired public sector employees.
The Ministry’s proactive approach aims to balance the educational needs of the country with the importance of the national census, ensuring that both crucial activities can proceed smoothly and effectively.
