Indian giant Tata Advance Systems has completed the administrative procedures to launch a new factory in Morocco dedicated to manufacturing military vehicles. This development comes more than a year after Morocco signed an agreement with Indian companies to build Indian military vehicles for the Moroccan Armed Forces.
A limited liability company named “Tata Advanced Systems Maroc Construction” was established in April 2024, registered with the Commercial Court in Casablanca. The company’s primary objective is “construction of military combat vehicles and the study, development, production, integration, and assembly of all military vehicles, equipment, and related components.”
According to the news site “The Desk,” this move puts India in an advanced position ahead of “other foreign competitors eyeing the kingdom’s nascent military industry, while Israeli investments remain in a wait-and-see state.”
Tata Advance Systems has previously delivered 90 6×6 vehicles to the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces for transporting equipment, ammunition, and troops.
This collaboration comes as part of Morocco’s efforts to diversify its partnerships with global powers. Moroccan-Indian relations have seen a notable rapprochement in various fields, including the military domain, especially since King Mohammed VI’s visit to India in October 2015.
This project reflects Morocco’s strategic direction towards developing its local military industry and enhancing its defense capabilities while benefiting from Indian technological expertise in this field.
The establishment of this factory is expected to not only meet local demand but also potentially target African and even European markets, as previously indicated by Moroccan Minister Delegate for Investment, Mohcine Jazouli.
This development marks a significant step in Morocco’s ambition to become a regional hub for military vehicle production and highlights the growing strategic partnership between Morocco and India in the defense sector.
