Key highlights from the report:

  • The Moroccan economy grew by 3.4% in 2023 compared to 1.5% in 2022.
  • The inflation rate decreased to an average of 6.1% in 2023 compared to 6.6% in 2022.
  • The value added of non-agricultural sectors increased by 3.5%.
  • Agricultural production showed a slight recovery of 1.4% after a decline of 11.3% in the previous year.

On the global scale, the economy experienced another slowdown with growth reaching 3.2% compared to 3.5% in the previous year. Raw material prices also declined significantly, with a 29.9% decrease for energy products and 9.8% for other products.

Bank Al-Maghrib took several measures to deal with the economic situation, including raising the key interest rate by 50 basis points at the beginning of 2023, before temporarily halting the monetary tightening cycle starting in June.

This report comes at a time when Morocco hosted the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in October 2023, which confirms the country’s ability to face challenges and turn crises into opportunities.
