The National Order of Judicial Officers in Morocco has announced a nationwide strike on August 6 and 7, 2024, in protest against Bill No. 02.23 relating to civil procedure, which was recently approved by the House of Representatives.
This decision came following a meeting of the Order’s Executive Office on July 26 and 27, 2024, in Agadir, chaired by Professor Mahmoud Abou Al-Houkouk, President of the National Order, and attended by presidents of regional councils and members of the executive office.
A statement issued by the Order explained that most provisions of this bill contain serious regressions that affect the rights of litigants in general, legal and judicial security, and undermine the conditions for achieving effective justice and equality in the application of the law to all.
The statement also pointed out that the bill contradicts the Kingdom’s 2011 Constitution, relevant royal speeches, international conventions, recommendations of the National Charter on Justice System Reform, and the contents of the Kingdom’s new development model.
The Order called on all judicial officers to participate in the national strike and decided to hold a general assembly for rescue on September 28, 2024, to outline an escalating program of action to address some of the bill’s provisions.
