The photos that have been circulating on social media, showing posters for tsunami prevention in the city of El Jadida, have raised concern among Moroccan citizens.
In this regard, the expert in climate and sustainable development spoke to the website “Le Site info”, where he affirmed that the dissemination of these photos aims to spread panic and fear among the population.
He stated: “No official alert has been issued regarding the risk of a tsunami. The information currently circulating is completely unfounded.”
He explained that the term “tsunami alert” refers to a warning issued by the competent authorities when a tsunami is detected or expected, due to underwater seismic events, landslides or other disturbances. These alerts aim to inform the coastal population of the imminent danger and enable them to take necessary safety measures, such as evacuation to higher ground.
