Sectoral Agreement Signed Between Moroccan Government and Health Sector Unions

In an important development in Morocco’s professional relations landscape, a sectoral agreement was reached between the government and the National Union Coordination in the health sector on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

This agreement came after a lengthy meeting chaired by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, on behalf of the Prime Minister, with representatives of the unions who signed the communiqué. The meeting lasted over 10 hours of intensive discussions.

During the meeting, the Union Coordination was briefed on the details of the government’s response to all points contained in the previous sectoral agreement, including legal and material aspects and implementation mechanisms.

Union representatives expressed their satisfaction with the progress made by the new government offer compared to the previous one. They also emphasized the need to expedite the implementation of the agreement and the importance of continuing work on some points within the framework of joint committees between the Union Coordination, the Ministry, and the relevant sectors.

At the conclusion of the negotiations, the sectoral agreement was signed between the National Union Coordination and the Minister of Health and Social Protection, with authorization from the Prime Minister.

As a result of this positive development, the National Union Coordination announced the suspension of the planned protest program. It affirmed its commitment to work on the proper and rapid implementation of the signed agreement, while continuing to discuss the remaining demands not included in this agreement during upcoming dialogue rounds.

This agreement is considered an important step towards improving working conditions and meeting the demands of workers in Morocco’s health sector, reflecting the success of social dialogue between the government and unions.

The agreement covers both statutory/legal and material aspects, with unions emphasizing the need for swift implementation. It was also decided that some points would be further discussed in joint committees starting from the following day.

This development marks a significant milestone in labor relations within Morocco’s health sector and demonstrates the effectiveness of sustained dialogue between the government and trade unions in addressing workers’ concerns and improving the healthcare system.
