In a new tragic incident, two bodies were discovered on the morning of Thursday, July 18, 2024, washed up on the shore of “Sidi Abdessalam d’El Bhar” beach in Azla commune, Tetouan province, northern Morocco.
Local sources reported that the sea had carried the bodies to the shore, where they were recovered by the relevant authorities. The identities of the victims have not yet been established, but it is believed they may have been young people attempting to migrate illegally to Europe.
Upon receiving the report, Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection units rushed to the scene. The bodies were transferred to the morgue for autopsy to determine the cause of death, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
This incident once again highlights the dangers of illegal sea migration and raises questions about the measures taken to curb this phenomenon and protect young lives.
Local authorities have not yet issued any official statements regarding the incident. Ongoing investigations are expected to reveal more details in the coming days.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with unauthorized migration attempts across the Mediterranean and underscores the need for continued efforts to address the root causes of such desperate journeys.
