Six Moroccan youths, who were detained in Algerian prisons in Tlemcen after the expiration of their sentences, were handed over yesterday, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, through the Zouj Baghal border post.
Hassan Amari, president of the Association for the Assistance of Migrants in Difficult Situation in Oujda, confirmed that the handover was based on the valid passports of the detainees.
Amari explained that the six young men hail from different cities in Morocco, including Oujda, Casablanca, Kasbah Tadla, Taza and Fez.
He noted that the association he heads is closely following several files related to youth detained in Algeria, many of whom are still in administrative detention awaiting deportation.
He emphasized that this process faces several technical and procedural difficulties, noting that many Moroccan youth are still in pre-trial detention or awaiting trial, with several bodies awaiting release and handing over to their families.
