As part of intensive security operations coinciding with the Ashura celebrations, the General Directorate of National Security succeeded in seizing large quantities of smuggled firecrackers and fireworks and arresting 237 people, including 83 minors, suspected of being involved in the possession and trafficking of these dangerous substances.
Intensive security efforts
During this period, the national security services dealt with a total of 206 criminal cases related to the possession and trafficking of firecrackers and smuggled fireworks, with the Settat security governorate leading the operations with 62 cases and 59 arrests, followed by the Casablanca security governorate with 43 cases and the Jdida regional security with 30 cases.
Massive quantities of firecrackers
The seizure and inspection operations resulted in the seizure of a total of 1 million 47 thousand 189 units of firecrackers and fireworks of various sizes and categories, with the Casablanca security governorate leading the seizures with 451116 units, followed by the Settat security governorate with 378098 units, Marrakech security governorate with 91306 units, Kenitra security governorate with 51976 units, and Jdeideh regional security with 46398 units.
Concern for the safety of citizens
These intensive security operations come within the framework of the General Directorate of National Security’s keenness to dry up all sources of smuggling and trafficking of these dangerous and flammable materials, and to neutralize the dangers resulting from their use, especially among children and adolescents.
