Khaled Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, explained in an answer to Naima El Fetahawy, a PJD parliamentarian, that 8,866,853 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine were distributed in Morocco during the COVID-19 vaccination period.
According to the minister, 13,542 people reported various side effects after receiving the vaccine, while the total number of side effects related to this vaccine amounted to 54,423 cases.
The minister noted that only 211 people reported side effects classified as serious by the World Health Organization (WHO), and no cases of fatal thrombocytopenia syndrome were recorded.
The minister emphasized that side effects of vaccines are normal for individuals, as they are designed to provide immunity without the risk of disease, and the appearance of side effects is due to the immune system telling the body to react in different ways, increasing blood flow to enable more immune cells to circulate, and raising body temperature in order to kill the virus.
