Rabat – In a pioneering step to protect and document Morocco’s cultural heritage, the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication announced today the launch of the country’s first national archaeological map.
This ambitious project is the result of a joint collaboration between the Ministry and the National Agency for Land Conservation, Land Registry, and Cartography, as part of efforts to inventory and preserve the country’s cultural treasures.
A ministry official told the Moroccan News Agency that “this map represents an important step towards improving the management and protection of archaeological sites and monuments throughout the kingdom.” He added that “this project will help facilitate conservation and restoration operations, as well as support academic research in the field of archaeology.”
For his part, a representative from the National Agency for Land Conservation stated that “the map will provide a comprehensive view of Morocco’s archaeological wealth, contributing to the promotion of cultural tourism and protecting national heritage from illegal encroachments.”
This initiative is expected to enhance the kingdom’s efforts to protect its cultural heritage and highlight Morocco’s historical and civilizational richness both nationally and internationally.
It is worth noting that this project comes within the framework of a broader national strategy aimed at preserving and valorizing Morocco’s cultural heritage, in line with the kingdom’s international commitments in the field of world heritage protection.
