Morocco’s tourism sector achieved an unprecedented milestone during the first half of 2024, attracting 7.4 million tourists, which positioned it at the top of African tourism destinations, surpassing Egypt, which recorded 7.06 million visitors during the same period.
Official statistics showed a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting the kingdom, with a 14% rise compared to the same period in 2023. Even more impressive is the substantial increase of 38% compared to pre-COVID-19 figures in 2019.
This exceptional growth reflects the success of Morocco’s strategies in developing its tourism sector and enhancing its attractiveness as a global tourist destination. It also indicates the sector’s full recovery from the effects of the pandemic, surpassing pre-crisis levels by a significant margin.
This achievement is expected to strengthen Morocco’s position on the global tourism map and contribute to driving the national economy, given the vital role that the tourism sector plays in providing job opportunities and generating foreign currency.
It’s worth noting that these record numbers come at a time when global tourism is experiencing a gradual recovery, highlighting Morocco’s success in attracting tourists and providing a distinctive tourism experience.
The remarkable performance of Morocco’s tourism sector underscores its resilience and adaptability in the face of global challenges, positioning the country as a leading destination not just in Africa, but on the world stage.
