“CAF” Announces Details of the African Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Draw

Johannesburg, South Africa: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the procedures for the draw of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco TotalEnergies qualifiers, which will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 14:30 local time (12:30 GMT).

Participation of 48 Teams: The draw will feature 48 African teams, which will be divided into four pots based on the FIFA rankings issued on June 20, 2024.

12 Groups and 24 Qualifying Teams: The draw will form 12 groups of 4 teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals, except for the group containing the host country Morocco, which will automatically qualify for the finals, while the second-placed team in the group will advance alongside Morocco.

Morocco’s Qualification Scenarios: If Morocco finishes first or second in its group, it will directly qualify for the finals along with the second-placed team. If Morocco finishes third or fourth, it will still qualify for the finals, while the group winner will advance alongside them.

Draw Procedures:

  • A ball will be drawn from Pot 4 and placed in position A4.
  • The process will be repeated for the remaining teams in Pot 4, then a ball will be drawn from Pot 3 and placed in the remaining position in Group A, and so on with the rest of the groups.

Official Seeding: CAF has also released the official seeding that will be used for the draw, dividing the teams into four levels:

  • Level 1: Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, Mali, South Africa, DR Congo, Ghana.
  • Level 2: Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Zambia, Benin, Angola, Uganda, Namibia, Mozambique, Madagascar.
  • Level 3: Kenya, Mauritania, Congo, Tanzania, Guinea-Bissau, Libya, Comoros, Togo, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Central African Republic.
  • Level 4: Niger, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Gambia, Burundi, Liberia, Ethiopia, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, South Sudan, Chad.
