At the official invitation of French security officials, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance Abdellatif Hammouchi visited the French Republic from June 26 to 28 for a working visit, during which he met with his counterparts in the National Police, Internal Security and External Security of France and discussed with them mechanisms to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various security fields of common interest.
During this visit, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance held a series of meetings and discussions with Céline BERTHON, Director General of Internal Security, and Nicolas LERNER, Director General of External Security of France, on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, increase coordination levels and exchange intelligence and operational data on the various threats posed by extremist organizations and transnational crime networks.
During these bilateral talks, which focused on the intelligence aspect of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance was accompanied by an important security delegation representing the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance.
In the context of this visit, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance met with Mr. Fréderic VEAUX, Director General of the French National Police, and held intensive talks with him in the presence of an important delegation from the General Directorate of National Security, during which they reviewed the advanced cooperation and coordination mechanisms between the two parties in various security fields, especially with regard to the development of proactive risk assessment mechanisms and data exchange on the sidelines of the joint work to secure the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
In recognition of the outstanding Moroccan-French cooperation in various security fields, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance was exceptionally awarded the Gold Medal of Honor of the French National Police, in recognition of his efforts to consolidate and develop joint security cooperation.
This visit was an opportunity for the French and Moroccan sides to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in a range of areas of combating transnational crime, especially related to the smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, illegal migration networks and human trafficking, as well as practical mechanisms for cooperation in the implementation of joint security procedures and operations.
This visit underlines the importance of raising the levels of bilateral security cooperation between Morocco and France, which share several bilateral action and coordination programs and face common security challenges. This visit also comes in the context of the involvement of the DGSN and DGST in the international security cooperation system to ensure an effective contribution to neutralizing terrorist and criminal threats at the regional and international levels.
